IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR
DOMAIN NAME
If
you've had someone else design your website, We might
need to get control of your domain name. Domain name
issues have been some of the stickiest situations I've
encountered.
I've seen too many people lose their domain names.
If you've already got a website with internet visitors
and lots of business cards and other marketing pieces
with your domain name plastered everywhere, then losing
your domain name would be very inconvenient and expensive.
So I want to try and make sure that doesn't happen.
First of all, we need to make sure that YOU are the
legal owner of your domain name. You can find this out
by going to WhoIS.net
and typing your domain name in the WhoIS Lookup.
If you are listed as the "Registrant" that
is GOOD! That means you are the legal owner. If somebody
else, like your website developer, hosting company,
or internet service provider is listed as the Registrant,
that could be bad... we've gotta try to work with the
owner of the name to have it transferred to you. Afterall,
you probably paid for it, right? So you SHOULD be the
owner but that's not always the case.
If YOU registered your own domain name then we'll need
to find your user name and password for your domain
account. If you've got that info, then all is well and
this potential problem has been solved. Now I can access
your domain account and direct your domain name to your
website if we'll be moving it to another server.
If you don't have your user name and password, then
we'll need to contact your Registrar (the company
you used to register your domain name). They'll
have to verify your identity. Every Registrar has a
different set of hoops for you to jump through so the
process could take a few days. We should get to work
on it as soon as possible.
