Beyond Google.

If you already know a little bit about search engines, you might be thinking, can't I just search engine optimize* my website and get good rankings in Google? Your website SHOULD be optimized for the search engines. Your site WILL get better rankings than if it is not optimized. BUT that still doesn't guarantee GOOD rankings in the Search Engines.

I search engine optimize every page of every website I create with relevant keyword filled page titles, content and meta tags. I also can search engine optimize websites that I didn't build if that's what your website needs. But unless your website subject matter is an extraordinary niche market, you'll need more than just search engine optimization to get much website traffic.

*If you're thinking, 'What the heck is "search engine optimization?"' you are not alone! Here's a quick and simple explanation. Search engine optimization (SEO) usually involves adding keywords about your business to the code and text of your website pages. Search engines index the pages of your website and your website then shows up in searches where people use the keywords that you've added to your code and page content.

 

 

There is a lot of bad information about internet marketing circulating around out there; don't get scammed. Lots of internet marketing companies have surfaced in recent years who are offering their customers the moon... for very high prices. I've met a lot of poor folks who've parted with way too much cash to these sorts of companies for very little return.

There ARE some very reputable internet marketing businesses but there are many many more bad ones than good ones. So BE CAREFUL! If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn't true. Do your homework before handing out your dough. Get references and get everything in writing.

MARKETING BASICS

Before you spend your hard earned dollars on internet marketing campaigns, you will want to follow these helpful internet marketing basics:

  1. Make sure that all of your traditional marketing pieces (brochures, business cards, print advertising, etc.) prominently display your web site address.

  2. Create a signature file in your e-mail program with a link to your web site and use it every time you send an e-mail.

  3. When you tell people your web site address, be sure to spell it out for them. (Widgets4U.com and WidgetsForYou.com sound exactly the same but people will not find your web site if they type the address incorrectly.)
